OUR SUCCESS STORIES

 ODIE; RESCUE DOG EXTRAORDINAIRE

This is Odie, someone dropped him off "in front of" the Dana Point Animal Shelter (A really nice place with great people!)

Odie is a 11-month old Border Collie-Tennesee Treeing Hound cross. He has a beautiful dark Mahogany and white colored coat with just the prettiest Hazel colored eyes.

He has been training as a Service Dog, learned the ups and downs of Escalators and Elevators, how to handle himself in large crowds and in confined areas.

Odie recently took a flight (in the cabin of course!) to Colorado Springs, Co. where he began his new life with Debbie. He has been assisting in her everyday chores and non-stop challenges. In his first few months of his new life he has been meeting each and every challenge with a wag of the tail. We'll keep you updated on his progress.

He's a high flying Urban "Cowboy"

A call for help from Border Collie Resue up north had us scrambling for a way to transfer this handsome black and white McNab to Southern California. Fortunately, Steve and Jill Teer from the Golden Gate Disc Dogs were coming down for a Dog Frisbee Competition and had the room (he was also bringing down his pack!) to fit him in. Once with our gang of Disc Dogs, Cowboy picked up the art of catching a Frisbee before finding his forever home with Sharon and his new four-legged Aussie sister, Kiya. Sharon and Cowboy have been competing in Disc Dog events this year.  The pair have finished in forth at the last competition! Be sure to watch for them, Cowboy loves to soar when catching the Frisbee!

Freckles, one cute little Border Collie!
A call from the Riverside Shelter, brought me face-to-face with this cute freckled little girl. A little on the quiet side for a Border Collie, but just a love all the same! She is housebroken, loves to give kisses and gets along great with other dogs.

Well, the right home for the right dog was once again Found! Freckles was adopted by Julia, her husband and two other "furkids" disguised as Aussies.

Isabelle aka "Issie", a six-month old "Bossie" from the Lake Isabella Animal Shelter to You!

Issie is a 6-month old "Bossie" (Australian Shepherd-Border Collie), A beautiful brown merle coat with a splash of white. She's up to date on all her shots spayed and very people and dog friendly! Issie has arrived at the ranch and is playing wonderfully with the pack! UPDATE: Issie has been adopted by Chris and is now living in San Diego! Watch for more updates to follow soon!

Rodeo; one handsome Cattledog!

Rodeo has been adopted by Chris, a Geologist in Riverside. Rodeo will be his partner on the hiking trails and best friend at home. Rodeo has his people all to himself, I'm sure a welcome change after living with the gang at the ranch! We'll keep you updated on his progress!

Sweet Bella

This is Bella, she's a registered McNab who has found her forever home, it just happened to be on 40-acres!

Bella came to us from a woman up in Atascdero, she had received herding instruction when she was young and then when her family started rasing Mini-Aussies was concerned Bella would try to herd them and possibly injure one, so they decided to find her a new home. She now has found her perfect home with Phylicia and Darrin down in the San Diego area on a cattle ranch yet! While Bella will be Phylicia's Darrin is showing her the ropes around the livestock.

CODY, HAS FOUND HIS HOME BY THE BEACH AND EVEN A DOG PARK!

Cody came to us from the local animal shelter, he was picked up as a stray and no one ever came to claim him! Cody loves playing with toys (a ball is his favorite). He's a got his own family now complete with two teens and mom. Guess that makes him the "dog of the house" quite a bit of a change after living with the pack! We'll keep you updated on his progress!

PATCHES, A HANDSOME BLUE CATTLEDOG

This is Patches, he's a handsome 4-yr old Blue Heeler aka Australian Cattledog. His previous owner, Betty, was in the process of moving to northern California and we met Patches while visiting her yard sale. Well, Betty noticed my Rescue Decal in the back window and mentioned she needed to re-home her Patches.

So, we took him in, slimmed him down, firmed him up. He's good with livestock, has a calm quiet technique of herding. Loves playing toss and fetch with his ball and if you're too tired to throw it, he'll toss it up for himself. Clint came to check him out, took one look at this handsome boy and and decided they belonged together. They're almost inseparable and Patches loves to ride around in Clint's big truck just checking out the scenery! Just two happy good ole boys enjoying life.

  6-month old Annie Oakley
looking for a forever Finding this happy puppy the right home!

Annie came to me from a Winchester family who took her in to avoid having her turned her in to the shelter by her previous owners.

She's an adorable Blue Merle Australian Shepherd, has spent considerable time indoors with her first family but left outside the majority of the time by the people I got her from. She is a little bundle of happy energy and an affectionate little girl. She absolutely loves playing with other dogs, seems ok with the cats, she will require some work and training, but what did you expect from a 6-month old puppy. UPDATE: Annie had been adopted by Andrea, who also has a rescued Mini Aussie named Rowdy, Annie and Rowdy make quite the pair and enjoy keeping Andrea amused with their zany antics.

Once a Texan, always a Texan!

This is Cheyenne, she's an energetic 1-1/2-year old AKC/ASCA registered Black-tri colored little Girl. She came from a working ranch in Texas. Cheyene LOVES to play fetch, disc, balls or anything you can throw, she's up for the game. We were working out Cheyenne's transfer details when I was contacted by Dallas, an Officer in the Army assigned to a base in Texas, he expressed an interested in adopting Cheyenne. So, I had him contact Cheyenne's current owners, they worked out the details and now Cheyenne gets to stay in Texas with Dallas and has two four-legged playmates to keep her occupied.

Fred, one "big" happy McNab!

Fred also came to us from the Lake Isabella Animal Shelter, he's around two years old, housebroken, friendly to everyone, gets along with all the dogs. His beautiful amber colored eyes (a McNab breed trait) will melt you, his manners impress you, he's one big happy boy;

UPDATE: Fred has moved up to Washington State with his new family. Jennifer and her husband, Doug "flew" down to California, visited and then loaded Fred up and drove back to Washington! Now that's true love for your dog! Congrats to all three of you! Wait! The saga cotinues...

(that's Fred in the middle!)

Lucy, a new home with Fred!

Funny thing about this little girl, Jennifer saw her in a dream before she came to browse my website again. She and Doug had been talking about adding a friend for Fred, (see above Lucy's picture) and came across Lucy's bio, one look and she know it was meant to be.

A two-year old McNab, she originally came from a Ranch up in Benton, California, (way up in the Sierras). She lived as a family member for almost two years before her owners felt like they weren't giving the opportunity to do what she really loves, Lucy loves to herd and it doesn't matter if it's two or four-legged! We had the opportunity to take her over to Doug (At the Pasture) for herding testing and she showed a lot of drive.

She's also shown an interest in Frisbee and likes to play with a ball. She has long nimble legs capable of traveling at some serious speed and a little work and obedience training, could be the Disc Dog / Agility/ or Herding dog of your dreams!

Lucy warmed up to Doug as soon as he picked up a tennis ball, but her real love is Jenn and she's at her side contantly. Of course Fred is also happy to have this pretty little girl as his playmate!

Tempest, Off and Running! A petite bundle of energy disguised as a cute Border Collie

Tempest also came to us from the Lake Isabella Animal shelter, she is a one-year old classic Black and White Border Collie. She tips the scales at just over 30-lbs and we don't think she'll get much bigger.

Tempest has some new interests in her life, Tiffany and Mike have adopted this little sweetheart and she now resides in Yorba Linda, one of the most "dog friendly" communities in Orange County.

She has been joined by Trouble, one very cute Cattledog puppy and another one of our rescues who never made it to the Adoption page. Tiffany and Mike will be looking forward to having "T & T" in their lives for a very long time!

Ozzy the Aussie, aka; the Escapist

This is Ozzy, a handsome year old AKC Blue Merle Aussie, he is also an escape artist and the only dog to find a way out of our secure dog runs (the catch pen stopped him though!) He was adopted by Michelle and now competes in Agility in San Diego.

 ONE MISPLACED COWDOG

WHO FINALLY FOUND HER CALLING!

I recieved an e-mail from a man in Walnut Creek asking for someone to adopt his McNab, when I looked at her picture, it was as if she called out to me! The owner had let the Contra Costa Animal Shelter impound her (for reasons he never told me). When I called down to the shelter they told me she was fear aggressive and not adoptable in fact she was scheduled to be put down that afternoon! After reading them the "Riot Act" I was told the only way to get her released was if the owner came and got her. I called up the owner, had him go spring her and jumped into the truck, 900+ miles later, we had her back home. She's a sweetie, but had absolutely NO training, she was housebroken but that was it. After a few days she began to warm up to me and the CowDogs, infact, she showed quite the aptitude for herding, she stayed on Dillon (I think she thought he was a Sheep!) nipping and snapping (thankfully Dillon is very tolerant!). Well, to make a long story short(er) She now resides with Ron and Karen in Oklahoma on a real ranch with goats and cattle. Her dream has come true! This kind of story makes a guy feel real good about going the "extra" distance!

This Adorable McNab went from California, to the big city lights of Las Vegas and has now found her Forever home in San Diego. Meet Roxy...A Star is Born!

This is Roxy, (on the far right) she is a one-year old black-tri McNab. She also came to us from out of state. Roxy was adopted by Al and joined his Frisbee Dog Team consisting of Gracie (also a McNab just with red and white coloring) and George, (one very athletic Rat Terrier) Roxy also competes in Flyball with Al's wife Pat. Read more about Al and his Dogs at www.WhyDogsFly.com

ADOPTED: Lacy, now known as Roxy,

one very Lucky lovely Lady!

Lacy, the Four-Legged rocket pictured above came to us from a Cowboy on a ranch in Arizona, seems Lacy was only interested in chasing his horses, he was so frustrated with this that he was on his way to drop her off at the the Animal Shelter when his girl-friend intercepted them, she brought her over to us. She's not much of a Frisbee or ball chaser, her true calling is "Herding" After only 30-minutes with Doug Manley, the local herding Instructor, he put down his shaft and worked her only on verbal commands. Yes, she is that good! Give her a chance to do some "Course Luring" and she absolutey flies! Lacy has shown a little interest in Agility but it's too early in her training to tell if she'll excell in it as she has the Herding and Luring. She's very affectionate, good with kids, other dogs but has way too much interest to trust her around cats.
UPDATE: Lacy, now known as Roxy, has been adopted to Elizabeth and her 11-year-old son, Zach (Pictured above). Roxy gets to sleep on the bed and watch over him. Liz is a good friend of Dougs so she also gets to go to Herding class on a regular basis!

ZACK, ONE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA LOVIN' AUSSIE

Zack , came to us from the Lake Isabella Animal Shelter with a little help from Border Collie's In Need President and volunteer transporter Deb. He didn't last long at the ranch, a good friend of mine had been waiting for the right dog to show up and Zack was it. A beautiful Blue Merle 2-year old, Zach stole Mike's heart and now resides with Mike and a fellow Canine buddy in the form of a 9-year old Poodle. The trio make regular trips to the beach, runs thru the local park with Mike, a dip in the spa, ahh, what a tough life they share! Congrats to both Mike and Zack!

K.T. (short for "Kickin' Tail)

Trailer Park Puppy headed for happiness

I came across this ad as I was browsing Craig’s List in search of McNabs:

Border Collie puppy

Date: 2007-11-30, 5:31PM PST
I have a female purebred border collie that is 4 months old - very sweet, smart and loving! Unfortunately we have to part with her. She is wonderful with my 3 year-old son and is already housebroken. She has had all of her shots. Her grandfather was purchased from Scotland for $13,000 (a champion trial dog) and she was born on a farm in Sacramento where we got her from. Her owners were relocating and didn't want to bother with her papers. She was the pick of the litter because she is beautiful and just so smart. Her father was a purebred rough coat border collie and her mother was a purebred smooth coat. I am asking a $150 adoption fee for her to recover costs for purchasing and vet visits (will include food, toys, treats, regular and retractable leashes, and dog crate). 775-852-XXXX.
Would like her to go to a good, active home preferably with a yard.

So, I called the girl (a pregnant 29-year old who told me she had already had 29 dogs!) Seems that this one was too hyper baby for her to handle. She lives in a Mobile Home with a small 4-foot high fenced in back yard that parallels the street and thought it was cute the way the puppy raced cars up and down the fenceline as they drove by! After hearing this there was simply "no way" I wasn’t going out to get her. She was actually cuter than the pictures she posted. She was overjoyed to have Maverick to chase (I brought him along for company). I spent a few minutes (like 40!) talking to her about the dog and she even gave me the breeder’s name and phone number. So I paid her, loaded up her things, the puppy and Maverick and hit the road.

Once home, I brought her out to meet the gang, this little girl walked right up to the fence with my 6 obnoxious barking dogs and stuck her nose thru the fence.  She’s quite the little pistol and not like any Border Collie I’ve ever known!                                       The following day I called the breeder, he told me he had been trying to save the puppy for himself, but between the move, (they had sold their house faster than they expected and were living in a temporary home) and the fact that his wife made him bring out the pup when the girl didn’t like any of the other puppies they had left, she didn’t have too much of chance.  He told me he regretted the sale as they pulled out of the driveway. He was ecstatic that I had the pup and offered to get me the paperwork to get her registered once they got unpacked in their new house. He also told me he had done a re-plumbing job for Tony Riaz (the guy that actually paid $13,000 for the puppy’s grandpa) in exchange for a puppy from Trials Championship dog. We immediately knew she was meant for a working home and I knew just the right person, Bess now has this little girl to keep her McNab, Kemper, company. Bess has been taking K.T. to herding classes on a regular basis and she continues to impress all the handlers and instructors

 Kala Koa, one unique McNab

with a new beginning by the beach!

This little beauty was adopted by Christy and Robbie, an active couple living in Santa Barbra. This "lucky dog" gets daily trips to the beach and hikes up in the mountains. Kala really is at least 3/4-McNab, with the other 1/4 being  Australian Shepherd, hense the blue-merle coloring. They liked the fact that she is very affectionate, loves being petted and gives them never-ending kisses if you let her. She has amazed her new family with her blazingly fast running ability and aptitude for catching the Frisbee and balls. Kala's McNab lineage really shows up while jumping as she "floats thru the air with the greatest of ease"! Click on link below to see Kala Koa & Robbie playing Frisbee Toss and Fetch! She's incredible!

One Happy Cowboy!

This happy boy came to us from a woman who was literally being throw out of her mobile home park (they were renovating the complete park and everyone had to go) and forced into a Senior Living Center. It broke her heart to lose him, but he went to a very nice home with Lisa, Brian and their two kids in Long Beach. They've been in contact with the previous owner and although it still hurts to lose him, she feels in her heart she (and I) did what was best for Cowboy!

Pebbles

Rocket, you're not in Kansas Anymore!

Recieved a call (yep another!) from Joan, in Holton Kansas, seems the McNab-Border Collie cross they were fostering had decided he liked the chickens at her place, problem was he liked the chase too much, had become a threat to them and had to be re-homed ASAP! She asked if I could take him, (me turn down a McNab???) a few days later, Mo was ready for his cross country adventure. 15 different rides/transfers from awesome volunteers and he arrived at the ranch. Once settled, the first thing on the agenda was to have his herding instints tested, Doug (At the Pasture) took him into the round pen along with a few sheep and was totally impressed with his abilities. (see second picture) Next up was Frisbee, he started off watching my dogs play and then picked it up effortlessly, even made six catches in a row! So, Mo, forever more to be known as Rocket has a new home now with a McNab sister named Lilly (seen below with Rocket) and his new forever mom, Carolyn!
